Life doesn't stop after a joint infection. Neither do we.
Joint Infection UK supports people affected by prosthetic joint infection (PJI) — and the families, carers and healthcare professionals alongside them. We're building a community where people can find trustworthy information, connect with others who understand, and feel less alone through what can be a long and difficult recovery.
When a joint replacement becomes infected, life can change overnight
A PJI can turn what was expected to be a straightforward recovery into months of treatment, uncertainty and further surgery.
PJI can affect people who have had hip, knee or other joint replacement surgery. Treatment may involve further operations, prolonged courses of antibiotics and a long period of rehabilitation.
Yet many people affected by PJI struggle to find information and support that speaks directly to their experience. That's where Joint Infection UK comes in.
Worried you may have a joint infection?
Increasing pain, redness, swelling, wound discharge or fever after joint replacement can need prompt medical assessment. This website does not replace advice from your own healthcare team.
Contact your surgical/orthopaedic team, or NHS 111, if you're unsure what to do. If you are acutely unwell, call 999 or go to A&E.
Wherever you are in this, you're not on your own
Whether you're living with PJI, supporting someone through it, or treating people affected by it, we're here to help build a better-connected community.

Joint Infection UK is in its early stages. Your support will help us turn an idea born from the experiences of people affected by joint infection into a lasting source of information, connection and support.
Your donation will be used to help us develop patient resources, establish peer support, raise awareness of PJI and create opportunities for people to connect with others who understand. Every contribution helps us take the next step.
